Academus Training Institute

CREDIT TRANSFER POLICY

RELEVANT STANDARD(S):

National Vocational Education and Training Regulator (Outcome Standards for NVR Registered Training Organisations) Instrument 2025 – Standards 1.6 and 1.7

PURPOSE

Academus Training Institute is committed to providing quality training and assessment in accordance with the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2025. Academus Training Institute recognise credit transfer for VET students based on previously completed and formally assessed learning. A clear process is in place, with guidance provided to support students in applying for credit transfer where the unit code and title match or are equivalent as listed on www.training.gov.au.

SCOPE

Academus Training Institute is committed to providing clear and effective processes for credit transfer to all current and prospective VET students. Academus Training Institute will ensure that:

  • VET students are informed of their right to apply for credit transfer during the pre-enrolment process
  • all credit transfer decisions comply with the VET regulator’s guidelines
  • students are given sufficient information and support to understand the credit transfer process
  • AQF certification documentation issued by other RTOs and authenticated VET transcripts from the USI system are recognised

Credit Transfer Policy Principles

Academus Training Institute will accept and recognise the outcomes of nationally recognised training delivered by any RTO or entity partnered with an RTO, ensuring mutual recognition of AQF certification documentation across Australia.

Academus Training Institute will grant credit for relevant units of competency after verifying the authenticity and validity of AQF certification documentation from other RTOs, including authenticated VET transcripts issued by the USI Registrar.

Credit transfer will only be granted based on verified evidence, such as certified AQF certification documentation or authenticated VET transcripts, unless restricted by specific licensing, regulatory, or training product requirements.

Certification documentation must be submitted as either the original or a certified copy of the original. Certified copies must be signed by an authorised signatory. All original documents will be returned to the applicant after verification.

Academus Training Institute is not required to issue an AQF qualification or Statement of Attainment if the full outcome is based entirely on units completed at another RTO. Full qualifications must not be awarded where no training or assessment has been conducted by Academus.

If a student requests to undertake refresher training in a unit for which credit transfer has been granted, participation in assessment is not required but may be offered optionally for revision purposes.

Where a student holds an AQF qualification or Statement of Attainment that contributes to another qualification, they will only be enrolled in the additional units needed.

Where credit transfer is denied due to licensing or regulatory restrictions, Academus will provide the student with a written explanation outlining the reason for refusal.

All credit transfer decisions will be formally documented, and students will be notified in writing of the outcome, including the reasons for either approval or rejection. If a credit transfer request is denied, the student may appeal the decision under the Complaints and Appeals Policy.

Determining Equivalence

If a VET student seeks credit for units of competency that are not delivered by Academus but meet the packaging rules of a qualification on offer, Academus will consult the National Register (www.training.gov.au) to determine whether the unit is equivalent to one within Academus’s scope of registration.

If a VET student seeks credit for units from a superseded training product, Academus’s Transition of Superseded Courses Policy will apply in addition to this Credit Transfer Policy.

Verification of Certification Documentation

Before granting credit based on a qualification, Statement of Attainment, or record of results, the assessor must authenticate the information. This may include contacting the issuing organisation to confirm the validity of the document and verifying that the content aligns with the relevant unit of competency.

MONITORING AND IMPROVEMENT

The CEO at Academus Training Institute is responsible for overseeing the credit transfer process and ensuring that all certification documentation is consistently verified by administrative staff prior to the granting of credit transfer. Credit transfer activities are monitored and evaluated to ensure compliance with the Standards for RTOs 2025 and to identify areas for improvement, in accordance with Academus’s Continuous Improvement Policy.
